Callaghan, Cork Street 4 Comments Add Yours This is 56 Upper Clanbrassil Street, the house of my grandfather Thomas Maguire. My mother Maureen was born in this house. I have often stayed here, visiting my multitudinous Irish relatives, and I have fond memories of the house, the street, the neighbourhood and of friends here. I have posted something about my grandfather’s house on my blog; you can read it here: http://michaelhaag.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/ghosts-of-my-grandfather-and-leopold.html Reply Thanks for sharing the stories about number 56, Leopold Bloom and your grandfather, Michael. I really enjoyed reading your post. It would be great to have memories like these associated with every ghost sign in Dublin. Reply Since leaving my original comment, I have had word from my Maguire family who tell me that the sign was painted in about 1950. Honour is due to those who did the work. My uncle Terry Maguire was the main man on the job. He had been sent to art school. So this was his Sistine Chapel, as the family put it. My uncles George and Bob helped on the scaffold. Reply Thank you so much for sharing this additional information Michael. I love hearing the stories behind the signs. Your uncles did a great job!
