BBC News ran this story yesterday from Clacton, United Kingdom about how vintage advertising for Black Cat cigarettes, Ambrosia and a local café was uncovered when a JC Decaux advertising billboard was removed.

Here’s hoping our one remains on display!

  1. That Shop was Sweeney Brothers Grocer shop run by two brothers, Sweeney Big and Sweeney Small, in the sixties when I lived on Parnell Road. It was a big shop and the brothers would gather your messages for you and pack them. I once lost the change of a five pound note (about €50 in today’s money), about 4pounds 10 shillings, and it was handed in by a customer, and one of the brothers brought it right up to my door to my mother (We had let them know it was lost on the way home by me) Such honesty of the person who handed it in and the Sweeneys! Different times now!
